When was the last time you feel you were left alone and nobody believed in your ambitions? Or can you remember the last time you had big plans but stopped believing in achieving it?
People always have ambitions and dreams they want to realise. With encouragement, we share these ideas with our friends, family members or with our spouses. Did you also experience the moment you didn’t receive support as a response but skepticism and doubts? That there was no change required to you as a person or what you do daily?
The notion of realism, the impact of one’s social environment often destroys ambitions and any action that is required to achieve a desired result. In most cases, it is not because people do not want to see one is becoming successful, but because people are afraid that you will not achieve them or question that your current circumstances do not allow you to transfer your thoughts into proper action.
Neither one’s current circumstances nor the barriers along the path are reasons in not achieving a desired result. But what if nobody sees the path and is supporting you? There can only be one answer: you have to become your own best supporter.
In order to ease the path, it is essential to take a closer look into your own personal beliefs, your environment, your habits and your focus in your mind and on the things you do on a daily basis.
- The notion of thought and imagination: The freedom of thought and imagination is the greatest possession that we as a species have. Ultimately, you have the absolute freedom and choice what thoughts you want to keep in your mind. Regardless of your current circumstances, you can pick up the right thoughts and use your imagination to determine, how your path will look like. More importantly, the law of repetition will reinforce those thoughts in your mind, and your subconscious will accept them as part of your reality. Just because other people say something about you does not mean that this is your standpoint. If you already have the chance to choose your thoughts, then why don’t you choose positive ones?
- Evaluating the environment: We are an interrelated species. We depend on other people. Our family, colleagues and our friends can be a valuable asset and represent an important element to create a high-quality life. When it comes to your ambitions, it is from importance to take a close look who is actually backing you up. At the end of the day, our friends mirror the values and principles we share. Any attempt to make a change for ourselves can be regarded as a potential threat to our harmonious relationships. “You do not have to change yourself – you are already a perfect person for me” is probably a familiar statement that all of us have heard. It is the sad reality: Those people we love can become the biggest barrier when we want to chase our goals – that is why you have to take a firm stand for your beliefs and your values. Being your own supporter does not mean that you are left alone in this world – it is about the energy that comes from your inside that brings you where you want to be. When we recognise that we have people around us who consistently try to break our process, you cautiously ask yourself whether you want to keep a relationship that is becoming increasingly toxic to yourself.
- Breaking patterns: The most fundamental part of achieving a desired result is to establish new habits and patterns that will bring you closer to your goals. Every single day. You may have probably heard about that a thousand times – but it has to be repeated over and over again. If we do not dare to take action, breaking our patterns and replace them with new ones, then we merely dream about our goal – but we will never achieve it. To break your old patterns, it is important to reflect about yourself: what actions do you take on a daily basis? Do they support you in achieving your goals or your mission? How do you regard yourself? Do you think you have the potential to become the best that you can be? Or do you think you already lost the battle because you do not have the skill set to achieve your desired result? You may think that there are so many things that you need to work on in order to achieve your goals – but have you ever asked yourself how much it would cost you if you do not keep working on yourself to transform your goal into reality?
- A life with consistent appreciation: Regardless of your current circumstances, it is important to focus on the things you are thankful for right now in your life. It does not really matter how bad your situation is – if you have the desire to make a change for yourself or for your organisation, then ask yourself what you are thankful for right now. Otherwise, how are you supposed to work on something if you do not appreciate what you have right now? Often, we complain about the absence of the things we do not have or do not can. But at the same time, we often forget that we have to appreciate the moment that allows us to learn and to grow. Next time you think you totally messed up, ask yourself: What am I thankful right now? What can I learn from this situation? And how can I continue contributing to my own journey and/ or to the ongoing journey of my organisation?
Being your own best supporter does not mean to take the fight against the rest of the world. It does mean you free yourself from the chains of negativity, wrong labels, and old habits that you have carried with you.
